The Orange Relationships
Honey Badger + Honeybee
Honey Haven
When in tune, this relationship can be very fulfilling. We call it HONEY HAVEN because when these two work together, they can make all the Honey the world needs. They can get a lot “accomplished” on a project, or a relationship. When the Badger is able to defer at times and the Honeybee is careful not to get bogged down with the fine details, they can be a powerful force. Maintaining a balance can be very tricky for them, but communicating their individual needs are critical. Both of these personalities are task driven, logical, and concrete thinkers, this makes for a formidable combination. The Badger is a natural visionary and knows what they want whereas the Honeybee can develop a rock solid plan of how to get there. In other words, the badger is the “get it done” and the Honeybee brings “the how” to the equation, identifying the best way to get it done. Badgers are willing to take the risks and Honeybees can see all the potential pitfalls. This combination sets high standards and lofty goals but when they balance each other out, they can reach them.
Obstinate Orange
When dissonant, this relationship becomes an OBSTINATE ORANGE. Their strong-willed stubborn nature, will become a glaring weakness of this pairing. Both of these personality types are concrete thinkers and their opinions can be unmovable and rock solid. Therefore, when these two don’t agree, neither is likely to concede. Both can be head-strong and overly critical, and sometimes even condescending, but will often-times be oblivious of their approach/presentation. Badgers are typically focused on getting the task completed as quickly as possible, no matter what; whereas the Honeybee wants it done “correctly”/systematically, that makes sense to them. If it does not make sense, then they will not be on board with the idea/project and doubt the efficiency. The Badger will see the Honeybee as a micromanaging speed bump and the Honeybee will begin to view the Badger as impulsive and careless. These tendencies can result in both feeling controlled by the other even though that would not be the intention of either. The Honeybee cannot see the forest for the trees whereas the Badger only sees the giant blob of green called a forest. The Honeybee has a strong tendency to personalize the Badger’s perceived criticisms as a challenge to their competency and can therefore become resentful. Honeybees are natural born “stamp-collectors.” They remember and can recite every negative comment made or mistake made for the past 45 years. The Honeybee views this “log book” as a way to connect the dots between situations to make things make sense. However, the Badger will typically surmise that the Honeybee is just being over-dramatic and therefore dismissive of the Honeybee's concerns. To the Badger, they will view this as the Honeybee “beating a dead horse” and become livid that the past is being discussed. This vastly different value that Badgers and Bees place on details and the past create lots of hurt feelings and miscommunication.
Things to Remember:
Honey Badgers, when communicating to a Honeybee, you must remember that it is extremely important, and even vital to the Bee for you to give details and be specific as well as be willing to listen to their details and explanations. Likewise, Honeybees, when communicating to the Badger, you cannot go over your entire outline, you must get to your point quickly, just as you feel disrespected when the Badger won’t listen to your details, they feel very bogged down by your details. Also, contrary to both of your beliefs, YOU ARE NOT ALWAYS RIGHT. The benefits come when you have the combination of big picture visions and systematic plans with the specific process of how to get to them.
